We analyze how the show portrays a telepath as a subject of brutal experiments by the Psi Corps, a powerful organization that seeks to create enhanced telepaths for their own purposes. We also compare the telepaths' situation to the historical cases of eugenics and medical abuse that targeted Black Americans, such as the Tuskegee syphilis study and the HeLa cells. We discuss how the show raises ethical questions about the rights and responsibilities of patients and how it challenges the viewers to empathize with the plight of people viewed as the other.
