Amsterdam’s RiverFest returns to Riverlink Park
Today 1 to 9 p.m.
 
 
 RiverFest will bring live entertainment, activities, food, fireworks and more to...
The 6th annual event, presented by the city of Amsterdam and the Tourism, Marketing and Recreation Department, is sponsored this year by Sticker Mule.
 
The Amsterdam X-Squad Water Ski Show will hit the water at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Live music will be performed by MedRock at 2 p.m. and headliner J. Marco Johnson at 7 p.m. The evening will be capped off with a fireworks display over the Mohawk River.

Episode 434-NBC TV has aired an episode of their popular family history show Who Do You Think You Are including scenes filmed in Fonda and Johnstown.  Actor Nick Offerman (who plays Ron Swanson in the sitcom Parks and Recreation) traced his ancestors to families from upstate New York. Kelly Yacobucci Farquhar, Montgomery County New York historian, explains why Fonda’s Old Courthouse is a mecca for genealogists and upstate New York historians.

* WHAT...Heat index values as high as the mid 90s to lower 100s on
both Saturday and Sunday.
* WHERE...In New York, the Capital District, Mid Hudson Valley,
Mohawk Valley, Taconics, and Lake George Saratoga Region. In
Connecticut, Litchfield County. In Massachusetts, southern
Berkshire County. In Vermont, Bennington and eastern Windham
Counties.
* WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, from 11 AM this morning to
8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 11
AM to 8 PM EDT Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses to occur.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
