Dr. John Kim
Just a couple of weeks ago, the largest bank failure since 2008, Silicon Valley Bank, failed. In reaction, people today are experiencing vast financial woes and appropriate questions. "What should I do with my money, how can I spot a good investment, did cryptocurrency really collapse, should I lean towards being risk averse or risk tolerant?” Today we’re discussing how we as followers of Jesus can best avoid common finance pitfalls while learning and cultivating the art of financial wisdom. How can we really discern the difference between finances and fairy tales?
John Kim is an entrepreneur, investor, church planter and pastor. He is the founder of Bored Room Ventures- a Web3/Blockchain agency and venture fund. He also founded the Karamaan Group, a long-term investing firm that takes ownership interests in public and private companies. Previously, he was a partner at MSD Capital – the family office overseeing the assets of Michael Dell.
John received his Ph.D. in economics from MIT focused on Game Theory and Finance, and did his B.A. at Harvard University studying applied math and economics. He currently teaches algebra at a correctional facility.
John is a member of the Board of Trustees of Vineyard USA, and also a Board member of Vineyard Manhattan in New York City. He and his wife Kara and son Samuel reside in midtown Manhattan. John is a long-suffering NY Knicks fan, and reckons himself an expert on burgers, sandwiches, and donuts!
