Episode eight is both timely and unfortunate. I picked The January Man as a film you must find because I enjoy Alan Rickman‘s fantastic turn as a quirky artist and detective’s assistant. I convinced ManWithPez we had to do this for January. Secretly I had hoped Mr. Rickman would hear our unknown podcast and laugh at the memory of his Ed. Now I hope he knew he was appreciated for so much more than villainy and stoicism. His smile was amazing.

In this film from 1989, we follow Kevin Kline‘s disgraced detective Starkey as he’s called back onto the force to find and stop a serial killer. The antics of Kline, Rickman and even Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio make this a film you must watch. They are a great team. Danny Aiello plays the only normal person in this stroy. He’s an honest police captain who simply wants to protect the citizens of his city and maintain the integrity of his precinct. The side story involving Harvey Keitel, Susan Sarandon, and Rod Steiger is less compelling. Don’t let their phone-ins take away from the enjoyment of this movie.
