Find That Film: Silver Bullet

Listen Later

This week we use creepy episode thirteen for the 80s werewolf movie Silver Bullet. Stephen King‘s adaptation of his own novella plays with the werewolf movie genre a little bit. The end result is fun and scary.

Many things work against the success of this film: multiple directors, the most opinionated producer in film, child leads, and the rocky movie success of King. The fact that anyone finds Silver Bullet watchable is amazing. The movie stars Megan Follows and Corey Haim as bitter siblings. Their Uncle Red (Gary Busey) encourages Corey’s Marty to break rules, which eventually puts Marty in the path of a serial killer. Marty and his sister not only figure out who the killer is but that he’s also a werewolf. It sounds ridiculous–it is–but it also brings a bit of fun to a formulaic genre.

Megan, Corey, and Gary work well together as the main characters. Supporting them are Terry O’Quinn as the sheriff and Everett McGill as the reverend. The quiet town of Tarker’s Mills bursts with memorable citizens. There are more scandals behind the picket fences than in Peyton Place.

Grab a bowl of popcorn and have a blast watching Busey lift up a movie. Find Silver Bullet.
