Read it, don't listen to it
What didnt you like about Madeleine Lamberts performance?
I should have read this book not listened to it. Madeleine Lambert read the story with no emotion. I have been listening to audio books since 1995 when they came out on cassettes and there are only a few narrators that I made note never to listen to again and she is one of them. She does the voices of other characters just fine, but all the inner dialogue which is essential to the story, she reads like a machine. No emotion.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
All the struggle, but especially the ending.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narrator is horrible! Skip this audiobook.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I like both Maggie and Clay. They represent a full range of teen emotions in the midst of mental illness and the first love experience.
What didnt you like about Madeleine Lamberts performance?
The narrator is just a bad actress. I suggest reading the book on its own.
Beautiful, CRAZY love story of Clay & Maggie
This is a heartbreaking love story of two different people who fall in love for the first time only to discover that the reality of the situation is so much darker and bigger than the both of them. The story begins with Maggie a seventeen year old who is in her senior year of high school. She's a sweet and caring person. She loves her family and her two best friends, Rachel and Daniel and would do anything for them. Her life is anything but fun. She does the same things everyday and is not at all spontaneous. She starts to wish there was something more to life until she runs into Clay Reed, literally runs into him in the school parking lot. He's dark, mysterious and very good looking. Clay and Maggie form a strong friendship with some serious chemistry! Clay clearly has some issues, with erratic behaviour and massive mood swings, and Maggie tries to get him to talk to her, but Clay ends up having to reveal that he is suffering from serious mental illness. Although, she is shocked by his revelation, Maggie doesnt care, and after learning about his horrible past, she vows to be the one to stand by him and support him no matter what. There are a few bumps along the way, but their friendship soon develops into a beautiful first love. Clay is such a broken soul. He is desperate for happiness, to have a normal life with the girl that he loves so passionately, but his illness is a constant factor.Maggie & Clays story is one emotionally wild ride. Their relationship followed the array of highs and lows much like Claytons mental state. Their love for each other is very deep, and they pretty much exist in their own little bubble, with Clay clinging to Maggie as the one good thing in his life. He battles his illness while Maggie continues to try to help him.
