I really love this book. I keep it with me --to reflect on different passage.
A quick, light read that would be better with time to go deeper
I'm not sure this book is worthy of the length of a book. It unpacks some of the phrases of the Redman's song "Blessed Be Your Name" and includes some few inspirational stories of worship in the midst of heartache. However, a third of the short volume is taken up in discussion questions and introductions, the personal anecdotes are short and conceal too much detail to make them very impactful, and each chapter left me thinking, "There's so much more you could say." It felt like a pretty shallow treatment of a deep and multi-faceted subject.
However, that may be too harsh a critique tilted by my normal intake of longer non-fiction. I can see this little volume being used for healing and great good in perhaps a discussion group. It would offer a launching point into personal stories that would otherwise be too painful to address with less-than-intimate friends. Though I found it too quick of a read, that does not mean the authors treated pain with trite solutions or quick, empty promises. They allow space for the mystery, depth and confusion that tragedy often brings. Perhaps the additional time of journaling through the questions at the end of each chapter would have made the material seem more memorable and effective.
* I received a free print copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really love the worship songs that the Redman's have written so ...
I really love the worship songs that the Redman's have written so I was excited to read this little book by them. I loved how the chapters were based off of their songs and how they shared more about how God inspired them to write each song. I also really appreciated the glimpses into their personal lives. While it is hard to know that fellow Christians have been through hard times it is helpful to know you aren't the only one to have pain. It is also so kind of them to share other hurts they have dealt with that others will relate to such as a miscarriage.
I loved how much scripture was infused into this book. I also loved letters they shared from people who where touched by their songs.
This book has a discussion guide at the end and would make a great Bible study book.
