I am delighted and honored to be joined by Lyn Barrette on the show today, in what is another raw and honest conversation about living with DID, coming out publicly, and finding self-acceptance and love for all of our parts.
Lyn is an author and founder of Dissociative Writers which offers writers’ workshops and memoir classes for people with dissociative disorders. Her memoir, Crazy: Reclaiming Life from the Shadow of Traumatic Memory, was published in 2022. She hosts two websites, writes a weekly blog and newsletter, and speaks on podcasts, at universities and seminaries, and at other venues interested in learning about the impact trauma has on the human mind. A retired teacher, school principal, and pastor, Lyn was diagnosed with multiple personality disorder (now known as dissociative identity disorder or DID) in 1992 while she was climbing up the career ladder. After considerable therapeutic work, she now lives a happily integrated life with her husband in the high desert of New Mexico.
This is a deeply moving exchange where we speak about regaining our voice, the complex nature of a relationship with God or spirituality, living an integrated, whole life, with parts, and how there is always hope and you CAN overcome what life throws at you.
