Hope Cross is a master’s level therapist who turned into a full-time caregiver for her husband Steve who is battling ALS. After he was diagnosed in August 2011 he progressed to the point where she became his full-time caregiver in early 2012.
Steve was 28 and Hope was 26 and in 4 months, they fell in love quickly! He was diagnosed in August 2011 with ALS and in October they were married, so Steve could walk during his wedding. By mid-2012 he was in a wheelchair, and coded and required an emergency tracheotomy, throughout each challenge, Hope learned to care for him as his body continued to fail for him. In the meantime, they tried to fit in as much as they could in a short promised timeline. All while facing shadows, humanness, the idea of impermanence, and learning to accept all that they couldn't change so that they could make the most out of all the space between the challenges.
Through caring for him she learned a whole new dimension of herself, gained new strengths, new skills, and passions. Hope allowed all the experiences they have gone through in the last 7 and a half years to continue to push her forward, and for that, she is extremely grateful.
