In this episode, Faye Newman chats with Richard Hibbert, a well-known name in the UK kitchen industry, about what it takes to create your dream kitchen. They dive into how to find trusted suppliers through the KBSA and the best appliances to consider. Richard shares his journey from chef to managing KSL Sudbury and explains why the KBSA is so beneficial, especially in terms of consumer protection and design awards.
Key Takeaways
When it comes to finding a trusted kitchen supplier, it's crucial to look for organisations like the KBSA (Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom Specialists Association). They do a great job of vetting showrooms and providing consumer protection, ensuring you're in good hands with independent suppliers.
As you start designing your new kitchen, remember that the key is understanding how you use the space. It’s all about tailoring the design to your specific needs and cooking habits, rather than just jumping on the latest trends.
Don’t skimp on quality when it comes to appliances and furniture. Investing in durable, long-lasting options will save you money in the long run. Plus, focus on features that align with your lifestyle—you want your kitchen to be as functional and enjoyable as possible.
Best Moments
“…we want to get all that out of them if they bake. You know, do they need a big area for baking? And sometimes, with the (it's interesting), the kbsa concept award, we give them a concept, and they have to design that concept, and that's what we try and get for a customer.”
“And the way things have changed. I mean, boiling water taps have changed things, because the way you make tea, you don't have a sink and a kettle so much anymore. And steam ovens have meant the hob is less reliant now as well, and things like that. So people's way of cooking is definitely changing and being open to that will definitely give you a better kitchen and work better for you.”
“The most important thing is how you use that space. You're not doing it for anyone else. It's you. Your designer will be good at making sure it works, but really hone in on how you use the space, and that will help you with products and units and that side of it.”
