The Apostle John tells us the very last human words of Jesus, "After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said… 'IT IS FINISHED,’ and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit" (Jn. 19:38).
Well, did Jesus finish His work? This is a vital question that every believe must determine. Did He complete my salvation or after I accept Him, do I have to do something more??
This is the trap of religion – to believe I must do something more to be acceptable, to be holy, or to be sanctified. Religion is the cross plus something MORE that I have to do.
“Jesus said unto them, My MEAT is to do the will of him that sent me, and to FINISH His work” (John 4:34). Here is the will of God clearly defined, to finish the work given. Did Jesus finish? Or… does He need to come back and die again?
