Peter was always willing to follow Jesus, ready to do what needed to be done. Jesus was gentle to Peter as he would make mistakes; Peter even denied the Lord three times before Jesus went on the cross. The Lord was washing the disciple’s feet, and when Jesus went to Peter, Peter said, “Lord, are You washing my feet?” (John 13:6). The Lord Jesus showed His disciples how to love one another, first the need to receive God’s love, and then you can honestly give. “Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me” (John 13:8). Peter soon changed his mind and let the Lord wash his feet; Jesus goes onto say, “For I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14).
