Fiona Aveyard - Nuffield Scholar & Renowned Advocate for the Lamb Meat Industry

Listen Later

Welcome to Season 2 Episode 7!

Today we’re talking with Fiona Aveyard.

Fiona’s an absolute trailblazer and this is not her first time behind the mic. She’s a farmer and lamb producer from Tullamore in NSW’s Central West. Her and husband Bill are fifth generation farmers and have established their own label Outback Lamb - a paddock to plate business supplying their lamb meat to the market.

It’s been a journey of discovery for Fiona, carving out a niche in a tough industry that being fresh food. She’s just been awarded a Nuffield Scholarship and I look forward to watching where that leads for her. The lamb meat industry is certainly benefiting from her drive and determination to establish consistency and marketability of her product.

Today we talk about her experience as a boarder and now, as a parent of four children two of whom are away at school, the comparisons between her time at boarding school and her childrens'. Boarding school is vastly different these days to what it was in the past, and Fiona really shines a light on the benefits, the challenges and the joy of building communities away from our home towns.

To hear Fiona describe the richness that boarding at school brings to her children’s lives is gold. Furthermore, when she speaks so fervently about the richness that our boarders bring to our schools…well that’s where she really shines. I loved this chat and I hope you do too.
