License to Parent with Trace Embry

Fires of Sorrow with Mitch and Elaine Schultz

Listen Later

This week on License to Parent with Trace Embry... Trace Embry and Rich Roszel discuss the hard facts of facing sorrows in life. Far too often, God is portrayed in various media as being subject to our every whim, just as long as we pray right and our faith is strong enough. But the truth is, Christians are in no way exempt from the struggles of the human experience, no matter what we may think or do. Today’s conversation focuses on Mitch and Elaine Schultz, who share their own story of fighting through tribulation. Married for 32 years, serving as pastors for almost 30 years, the Schultzes have certainly been through plenty of hardships. They have three children of their own: Travis, Breanna, and Brett; and are the guardians of two other children as well: Zachary and Natalie. Both Elaine and Brett are cancer survivors, but Travis, the oldest son of the family, died of cancer at the age of 12. Mitch has authored four books on the topics of suffering and loss, including the one discussed in this program, entitled Fires of Sorrow.Today’s topics include:The myth of “a life lived unscathed.”Facing death and finding peace.Where God stands in times of darkness.Keeping faith through pain and suffering. What should and should not be said to someone in grief. You can learn more about Mitch and Elaine Schultz, their story, and Mitch’s books at FruitfulVineMinistry.com.
