1 Timothy 4:1-8

Various Scripture This morning we are going to look at the attribute of God's immutability. Even though you and I live in a different time than the people of the Bible, God remains the same – unchangeable.

Genesis When we gather on Sunday Morning's to worship God one of the things we do is sing. Congregational singing is the primary musical expression in worship. The hymns we sing aren't chosen by accident. We sing hymns to give glory to our Sovereign Creator, the Lord God Almighty. Hymns like 'How Great Thou Art' or Great is the Lord.' One hymn in particular found in our Baptist Hymnal is # 215 entitled 'Majesty.'

1 John 4:7-16 When we ponder this absolute truth about God, it is unarguably one of the most tremendous declarations found in all of the Scriptures. Unfortunately, the phrase 'God is love' is also one of the most misconstrued sayings in the Bible.

Galatians 3:26-29 This morning we are going to take a deeper look what it means to be a child of God i.e., 'adoption' becoming part of God's family.

Acts 19:11-20 As mentioned last week – Ephesus was quite a city. Digging deeper we find the city itself was held in the grip of superstition, demonism, and spiritual darkness. Ephesus was a stronghold for the devil, a bastion of the underworld and occult. Although a wealthy city that sat at the crossroads of the Roman Empire, Ephesus was spiritually bankrupt.

Acts 19:1-10 Upon Paul's return to Ephesus, he encounters a group of 'disciples' who resemble the car illustration I just used. To the naked eye they have the outward appearance of disciples, but they are completely stalled out – they are trying to live the Christian life on deficient faith. As we look into 19:1-10 today, we see that the Holy Spirit is not an optional add-on for the Christian life. The Holy Spirit is paramount in the life of every believer. The Holy Spirit is the engine of our faith and walk with Christ. True faith is always marked, corrected, equipped, and multiplied by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 18:24-28 This morning we conclude Acts 18 (Acts 18:24-28 to be exact). In our passage for this morning, we are introduced to Apollos. He was an eloquent, influential man from Alexandria who traveled to Ephesus teaching about the "way of the Lord." He spoke boldly about Jesus, but his knowledge stopped at John's baptism—he didn't fully grasp the power of the Cross, the resurrection, or the Holy Spirit.

Acts 18:18-23 We are in Acts 18 and our passage this morning we find the Apostle Paul at the peak of his missionary career. He is planting churches, enduring opposition, and seeing the hand of the Lord do mighty and wonderful things. But he does something in our passage this morning, he goes back to Antioch – i.e., his 'mission control.'
