Legendary Ambassador Sarek (Mark Lenard) boards the Enterprise in order to finalise a historic treaty with the Legarans. However, all is not well as he appears to be losing control of his emotions, crying at a Mozart recital. Meanwhile tensions are rising among the crew with apparently random outbursts of anger. Picard and Crusher determine that Sarek is suffering from a rare Vulcan mental illness, Bendaii syndrome and he is losing control of his emotions and projecting them onto the crew. It seems the diplomatic mission will fail, unless some way can be found to help Sarek regain control.
