Welcome to the Know Your Network Podcast!
On the Know Your Network Podcast, we sit down with MCLA staff and faculty to highlight the departments, services, and people that support students throughout their college journey. This series gives departments a platform to share what they offer—and helps students build more personal connections with the people and resources available to them on campus.
In this episode, we sit down with Connor Wentrick, Assistant Director of New Student Programs and First Gen Initiatives at MCLA, to talk all things First Generation student support.
Together, we discuss what it means to be a first-generation college student, how MCLA defines and supports first-gen students, and why orientation, community-building, and accessible resources matter—especially during the transition into college. Connor also shares personal experiences, common challenges like imposter syndrome, and highlights events, scholarships, and programs designed to help first-gen students feel supported, connected, and successful at MCLA.
This podcast is produced and scheduled through the Student Access Media (SAM) Lab, located in Murdock Hall, Room 118.If you’d like to schedule a podcast, create a video, music project, or start something new, visit:lnk.mcla.edu/samlab and follow the instructions to book time with us.
