FirstEnergy Seeks More Time to Restore Power After Outages in Ohio

Listen Later

A request by electric utility provider FirstEnergy to change power restoration standards in Ohio is drawing attention from city leaders, regulators, and consumer advocates across Northeast Ohio.

The company has asked the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to modify current reliability benchmarks that determine how quickly electricity must be restored after outages.

Supporters say the change reflects new realities such as more frequent storms and aging infrastructure. Critics argue that customers already pay high rates for reliable service and should not face longer outages.

The debate could affect thousands of residents served by FirstEnergy’s Ohio utilities.
