April 13, 2025, is shaping up to be a fantastic fishing day around Los Angeles. Here’s your local fishing report from an angler’s perspective.

The sunrise graced us at 6:24 AM, and with sunset at 7:23 PM, there’s plenty of daylight for some serious fishing. The tides are active today: the first low tide hit at 4:18 AM at -0.07 ft, the high tide peaked at 10:26 AM at 3.99 ft, the second low tide arrives at 3:49 PM with a modest 1.26 ft, and the evening brings another high tide at 10:01 PM rising to 5.35 ft. These conditions, paired with a tidal coefficient climbing to 84, promise strong currents and lively fish activity.

The weather is cooperative with clear skies and mild temperatures in the 60s to 70s (°F). Winds are light, providing favorable casting conditions for surf fishing and inshore trips.

Fish counts this week are impressive. Marina del Rey has been bustling with action, reporting over 525 rockfish from the New Del Mar and 350 rockfish from the Spitfire during recent outings. Redondo Beach also delivered, with the Redondo Special tallying 186 rockfish during a morning trip. Long Beach continues to shine as a hotspot, with the Victory boasting a haul of 500 rockfish and dozens of sculpin, sheephead, and whitefish. Offshore, halibut, calico bass, and yellowtail remain solid targets along the Southern California coast.

Today’s best bait and lure picks include swimbaits, jerkbaits, and soft plastics. Drop shot rigs using shad or fluke work well for bass and halibut inshore. For live bait, anchovies, sardines, and squid are reliable choices, especially for larger predators like halibut. Anglers pursuing rockfish and whitefish have seen success with squid strips and cut sardines.

For top fishing spots, head to Marina del Rey for rockfish and lingcod or Long Beach for a mix of whitefish, sheephead, and rockfish. For inshore anglers, the surf near Santa Monica Pier or the jetties at Redondo Beach offer a great chance at halibut, spotted bay bass, and perch.
