Lake Fork, Texas Fishing Report - Daily

Fishing Lake Fork Texas Amid Fall Turnover for Aggressive Bass Crappie and Catfish

Listen Later

As of October 8, 2024, Lake Fork in Texas is offering some excellent fishing opportunities. Here’s what you need to know for a successful day on the water.

### Weather and Water Conditions
The water temperature is around 81 degrees, with the lake slightly stained and sitting 1.74 feet below pool level. The lake is currently turning over on the upper east and west arms, which can affect fish behavior but also presents some great fishing spots.

### Sunrise and Sunset
Sunrise today is at 7:24 AM, and sunset will be at 6:54 PM, giving you a full day to take advantage of the early morning and late afternoon bites.

### Fish Activity
The early morning bite is particularly good, especially around grass and smaller points in 2-4 feet of water. Bass are aggressive on topwater and shallow, with windy banks providing schooling action. Use small topwaters or streamers to capitalize on this.

### Types and Amounts of Fish
Bass fishing is excellent, with largemouth bass actively feeding early and late in shallow waters up to 6 feet deep. Topwaters, flukes, and Yum Dingers are working well around grass. For deeper waters, Carolina rigs and Texas rigs on points and humps in 7-12 feet are productive. Crappie fishing is also hot, with fish found in a range of depths from 12-40 feet around timber, brush piles, and underwater road beds. Catfish are active in 18-28 feet around timber along creek channels.

### Best Lures and Bait
For bass, topwater baits like hollow frogs (Berkley Swamp Lord) and walking baits (Berkley J Walker) in shad patterns are effective. Texas rigged Berkley 10” Powerworms with a 3/8 Elite Tungsten weight and a 5/0 hook are also catching a lot of fish. For crappie, minnows and small hand-tied jigs are working well. Catfish are responding to prepared baits like cattle cubes or sour grain.

### Hot Spots
Focus on the upper east and west arms of the lake where the water is turning over. Creek channel edges, shallow humps, points, and old pond dams are great areas to check out. For crappie, target the outside edges of timber lines and open water main lake timber under the surface.

With the right lures and knowledge of the lake's current conditions, you're set for a great day of fishing on Lake Fork. Enjoy your time on the water
