Every part of the body has to be protected and covered.  This is true in ordinary warfare and it is equally true in spiritual warfare.  The helmet worm by Roman soldiers was made of leather, but the leather had been strengthened and ornamented with plates of metal to offer protection.  The spiritual application of the helmet is obvious:  the Apostle Paul is drawing attention to the head, mind, understanding, and thinking of the Christian.
