Artisan Church

Five Minutes of Fire | Artisan Staff

Listen Later

In this 5 Minutes of Fire, five members of our staff team reflect on James 1:19–27, a passage that pushes faith beyond belief and into practice. James reminds us that the Word of God isn’t meant to simply be heard—it’s meant to be received, obeyed, and lived out.

We explore what it means to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, recognizing that humility is the soil where the Word takes root. But James also warns us about self-deception—where we hear the Word, recognize the truth, and still walk away unchanged. Awareness without obedience leads to drift.

James then reframes obedience as freedom, not restriction. When we look intently into God’s Word and continue in it, transformation happens over time. Faithfulness produces blessing, and consistency forms joy.

That transformation becomes visible in our words. Our speech reveals the condition of our hearts, exposing the gap between public faith and private conversation. Unchecked words don’t just affect others—they shape us.

James closes by redefining true religion as faith that shows up in compassion and holiness. A faith that cares for the vulnerable, resists being shaped by the world, and reflects Christ in everyday life.

Five voices. One passage. One invitation: let the Word you hear become the life you live.
