J.C. Ryle's "5 Points of Evangelical Religion," outlines the foundational tenets of evangelical Christianity. Ryle identifies five core principles: the absolute supremacy of Holy Scripture as the sole authority for faith and practice, rejecting any other co-equal guide; the profound emphasis on human sinfulness and corruption, stemming from Adam's fall, necessitating radical spiritual healing; the paramount importance of Jesus Christ's work and office, asserting that salvation is achieved solely through simple faith in Him; the high value placed on the inward work of the Holy Spirit, stressing internal transformation as the root of true faith; and finally, the significance of the Holy Spirit's visible outward work in a believer's life, where fruit in conduct is the undeniable evidence of genuine grace. Ryle asserts these principles are not merely components but the chief and principal characteristics of evangelical theology, aligning with both Scripture and the Church of England's articles.
