Five Things to Consider When Deciding Which Coach to Hire
In this week's video, I share five things to consider when deciding which coach to hire. It's a question I get a lot, so I am excited to share five things to consider and a few red flags to be wary of.
When you google "how to hire a life coach," you will find advice like ‘check their experience, skills, and qualifications and get at least two references. Confirm their credentials, professional memberships, and credentials.’
I have never chosen a coach this way. So, how do you decide who to hire? Here are five things to look for:
#1 Resonance. - do you resonate with them and/or their philosophy? Visit their website and ask yourself if their message and overall vibe resonate with you.
#2 Can they hold you? Is there a sense they do their inner work and have clear energy? Will they be able not to bring their ego into your relationship and provide a space where your truth will be able to come forward? Will they be able to hold you where you are going? They either have to be secure in you, potentially surpassing them, or be a great deal ahead of you.
#3 Are they doing aligned work for them? I always visit their About page to learn about their story and why they do the work they do.
#4 They can see what I can't, relating to results I am currently not getting, and want to help me get. In other words, are they magical? I am looking for someone with a different perspective to reveal the hidden truth that I cannot see myself.
Red flag: If a coach approaches it as you won't be successful unless you work with them, that could be considered as disempowering. You want to work with someone where there is no power dynamic involved. You want someone who sees you as whole, complete, and empowered.
#5 Are they into you? I want to work with someone who has asked me enough about what I want to know if they can help me get there. This is something you don't necessarily have to discuss personally. Good copywriting, structure, and messaging will tell you everything you need to know, so the website is the perfect place to find this. Go to their website and see if they work with people like you and if they love people like you. Do they specialize in serving people like you?
