This week, we will continue our series in Daniel 3 with a very familiar story about three men confronted with a decision: bow the knee to an idol or worship the Lord. They resolve to hold to their convictions in a culture of compromise, choosing to worship regardless of the result, the attacks, who is (or isn’t) with them, and no matter how intense the heat becomes.
There are so many lessons from this story that you and I can learn from. No matter who you are, we will all face “fires” in life, some even with eternal consequences (which we’ll talk about as well). There will be times when our worship is called into question and we are faced with scenarios we would never choose to walk through. We would rather watch from the sidelines or fold and try to avoid it at all costs.
The three men in this story experience another in the fire, and only those who walk into the fire and continue to worship experience the power and presence of God and, as we will see, remain untouched.
Trials in life never warn us they are coming or how serious they will be, so we must resolve for our worship to be unwavering. In this story, God uses the fire to draw those far from Him to Himself, and He is doing the same thing today. How we walk through the fires in our lives can draw people to Him when we continue to worship. And church, that is a powerful thing: to keep showing up and worshiping, even when it feels like you’re walking through hell.
