A Great Sequel to an Excellent First Book
I though that the sequel followed quite naturally from the first book. Although it takes place 25 years after the first book ended, it explores the same themes of politics, morality, and racism (although in this case, its bias against of other types of aliens, not against people of different race). It also looks at Tora after the division of its two worlds. We get to re-enter the world of Brandon, and learn about the new generation of earthlings. Another exciting read, with thrilling space battles!
The bonds built between species could really teach a lesson to kids today.
The bonds built between species could really teach a lesson to kids today. Also the addiction issues to technology. This is a great stand alone scyfi book however I recommend reading both.
The themes of politics, addiction, classism, continued to draw me in. I actually read most of the second book in a single day because I didn't want to put it down. I really enjoyed the battle scenes and painted a pretty rad picture in my head during them.
(spoiler-ish) I hope that one day he writes a third book about the rebuilding of Amulen.
So pour yourself a glass of Redflower-20 and sink into this great read.
Fun sequel!
Andy Kasch's sequel to his high energy packed sci fi novel, Test of Magnitude, is extremely fun and interesting for another point of view. You feel yourself growing up with the main character, who is braver than I am for sure. Andy Kasch manages to create a world so beyond any imagination and paint it so clearly. Great work, highly entertaining and a great follow up to the precedent novel!
Another winner
This sequel starts 25 years after the first book. And I'm glad it did! We get to see how the humans have adapted, how Brandon has grown, and how the newer, younger generation of humans see life. Even the previous conflicts have evolved, and not all for the better. Let me just tell you this, if you liked the first book, you'll definitely like this one!

Kasch's writing draws you right into the drama of the storyline. He has an unparalleled flair for detail that develops the characters in a way that you feel like you know them closely.
