Publisher's Summary:
The nuns called her Eve when they found her lying unconscious in a field in Burgundy, France. She had no possessions apart from a Tangiers ferry ticket, not even her memory, though her accent suggested she was an American. The convent has been her home ever since, a simple, tranquil life. Then one night, while Eve is away, a dozen camouflaged men make their way through the convent, murdering the sisters in cold blood. Only Sister Heloise escapes. And she tells Eve that the men had been focused on looking for one person: "the American". With no idea why the men wanted to find her so badly, Eve must flee. Her only clue is the ferry ticket. She heads to Morocco on a desperate journey in search of her identity and her history. But the precious knowledge may be more terrible than she can imagine.
Editorial Reviews:
This well-written, fast-paced thriller will hook listeners from the opening sentence and keep them engaged throughout the dark, propulsive story. An amnesiac known as "Eve" wakes up in a field in France and is taken in by a group of nuns, who are later brutally murdered by men searching for her. Eve flees the country in a desperate attempt to figure out who she is and why she's a wanted woman. Performer Betty Bobbitt's dignified, matronly voice creates an emotional attachment with the narrator, and her weighty tones convey the gravity of the trouble in which Eve finds herself. Listeners who love well-done thrillers with female protagonists and an occasional touch of travelogue will enjoy this one.
Critic Reviews:
"[A] beautifully written spy novel." (Publishers Weekly)
"High energy thriller." (Booklist)
"A voice that gets your attention like a rifle shot." (The New York Times Book Review)

Story is okay
The overall plot is pretty interesting; the problem lies with the execution of the story. I found that the protagonist's adventures/missions too simple and sometimes laughable. (For example, an arms dealer ask a kid to steal something important for him.) Another thing is that this novel lacks momentum. What I mean is that it doesn't have enough suspence and tension to drive the reader to read on. There is also not enough descriptions on the characters' emotions. I can't really connect with the characters at all.
Incredible Read
One of the best books I've ever read. The plot keeps you guessing but is not so complex that you get lost. Exciting and vivid characters that draw you in and make you a part of the story. It's the most exciting book I've read that let me go all over the world and stay in my own living room.
