*About the sculpture, Maria writes, âI named her âGanasâ from a speech Edward James Olmos, as Jaime Escalante, made to Hispanic students in his calculus class in the film, Stand and Deliver. Students from East L.A., he explained, needed the desire â the ganas â to work hard and achieve their goals. As a teacher, I watched this film for inspiration when each new school year began.â
Artist and dear friend Maria Wickwire creates ceramic sculptures that reveal feminine archetypes, hoping to encourage healing and forgiveness in our sometimes splintering world.
