October Madness starts HERE. 🎃

We’re kicking off our month-long horror celebration with the 2002 cult classic May — and we’re joined on the stoop by author Emma Cole, whose book Love Never Dies explores the fascinating connection between horror and romance.

Together, we break down May’s loneliness, obsession, rejection, and her twisted search for the “perfect” person. We also dig into why horror and romance work so well together, where love crosses the line into possession, and why May somehow feels like the horror predecessor to Napoleon Dynamite.

Plus, Emma tells us about Love Never Dies, why May belongs in the conversation about romance in horror, and what the genre can reveal about love that traditional romance sometimes can’t.

Pull up a step and join us on the stoop for the first episode of October Madness.

In this Behind the Reel bonus episode of Flicks On The Stoop, Los & Trae dig into the real-world history and filmmaking choices that shaped Spike Lee’s 1989 classic.

We get into the death of Michael Stewart and its connection to Radio Raheem, Spike Lee’s later short film 3 Brothers, the parallels to Eric Garner and George Floyd, Rosie Perez’s unforgettable opening dance, Spike’s use of Dutch angles and visual tension, and why the film’s themes still hit so hard decades later.

This isn’t another movie review — this is the story behind the story.

🎬 When the reel ends, the real talk begins.

We get into what the movie is really saying about racism, accountability, violence, love vs. hate, and why more than three decades later, Do the Right Thing still refuses to give us easy answers.

What happens when questioning your faith becomes a matter of life and death?

This week on Flicks on the Stoop with Los and Trae, we’re breaking down HERETIC, the A24 psychological horror film starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East.

We get into Hugh Grant’s chilling performance as Mr. Reed, the terrifying Belief vs. Disbelief choice, the film’s religious arguments, the illusion of free will, that unforgettable ending and butterfly, and one of the biggest questions Heretic leaves behind:

Go Behind the Reel of Sinners as Los and Trae dig into this Ryan Coogler masterpiece. Ryan Coogler didn’t just make Sinners, he built a living, breathing world out of family history, blues culture, and displayed some of the most ambitious filmmaking of his career.

Los and Trae break down how Coogler, cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, and composer Ludwig Göransson turned an intimate vampire story into a sprawling, technically daring epic that keeps revealing new layers the more you look.

Coogler draws from his Mississippi roots and memories of his late Uncle James, while the film’s blues-driven storytelling, juke joint setting, and generational themes make the music feel like the soul of the movie, not just the soundtrack. Los and Trae unpack how those creative choices transform the film from genre exercise into something far more emotional and expansive.

In this episode of Flicks on the Stoop, Los & Trae take a deep dive into Sinners, the 2025 horror film produced, written, and directed by Ryan Coogler. They explore how Coogler transforms a vampire story into a powerful examination of identity, freedom, belonging, cultural appropriation, assimilation, and survival.

The conversation covers Michael B. Jordan’s standout dual performance as Smoke and Stack, Ludwig Göransson’s electrifying score, Delroy Lindo’s scene-stealing Delta Slim, and Sammy’s music as the emotional heartbeat of the film. Los & Trae also unpack the deeper meaning of the juke joint, the symbolism of the vampires, Coogler’s use of blues, church music, history, and myth, and the film’s layered visual storytelling—from its IMAX presentation to its unforgettable ancestral dance sequence.

More than just a breakdown of what makes Sinners work, this episode looks at why Ryan Coogler’s artistry and ambition may have created a film that stays with you long after the credits roll.
