Flipside Church turns 21 — and Pastor Karl marks the milestone by diving into Matthew 24, Jesus's teaching on the end times.
Before opening chapter 24, Pastor Karl revisits the close of Matthew 23, where Jesus weeps over Jerusalem's rejection of Him — a rejection Paul later explains (Romans 11) as a partial hardening that will lift once the "fullness of the Gentiles" comes in through the global spread of the gospel. That truth anchors the church's 21-year mission of church planting, including upcoming work in Israel and Venezuela.
Turning to Matthew 24, Pastor Karl unpacks Jesus's prophecy about the destruction of the temple and the signs preceding His return — false messiahs, wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, and the "abomination of desolation." He walks through the historical weight of Herod's temple (80 years to build, destroyed within a decade of completion) and connects Jesus's words to the seven seals of Revelation 6, showing how they map onto the same sequence of end-times events.
The big idea: as history moves toward Christ's return, His church must resist deception, endure persecution, and proclaim the gospel to every nation. Pastor Karl challenges Flipside not to confuse its campus with God's kingdom, but to keep its eyes fixed on the mission — reaching every nation with the gospel until Jesus returns.
Looking back on 21 years of church planting (750+ churches funded and planted since 2016), Pastor Karl calls the church forward with gratitude for the past and urgency for the future: "no reserve, no retreat, no regret."
