In episode 47 of “Digimon Adventure,” the DigiDestined are split into two groups, facing intense battles against powerful enemies. Mimi, Joe, and Ogremon are led by SaberLeomon to a location near an old restaurant, only to encounter MetalEtemon. In the ensuing battle, SaberLeomon sacrifices himself to save Mimi, with the help of Zudomon, who weakens MetalEtemon enough for SaberLeomon to deliver the final blow.

Meanwhile, Tai, Sora, Izzy, TK, and Kari are attacked by Puppetmon and his army of RedVegiemon. Despite Puppetmon’s efforts, the DigiDestined’s Digimon digivolve to their strongest forms, gaining the upper hand. Puppetmon brings his mansion to life, turning it into Housemon, but the DigiDestined continue to fight back. MetalGarurumon, controlled by Puppetmon, refuses to obey, leading to a final confrontation where Puppetmon is defeated by MetalGarurumon’s Metal Wolf Claw. As Puppetmon dies, he reflects on the lack of true friendship in his life. After the battle, Matt and MetalGarurumon depart, and Leomon, having made peace with Ogremon, is deleted as well.

This episode encapsulates the themes of sacrifice, the strength of friendship, and the ongoing struggle against darkness that defines the DigiDestined’s journey.

Matt confronts Tai, furious over what Cherrymon revealed to him. He orders MetalGarurumon to attack Agumon, forcing Agumon to warp digivolve into WarGreymon to protect Tai. An intense and unstoppable battle erupts between the two Mega Digimon. To the other kids’ dismay, Tai and Matt also begin to lash out at each other, with Tai justifying his actions as being for the sacrifices made for the group’s sake. Watching from a distance, Puppetmon is pleased by the chaos. The rest of the team looks on helplessly, aware that they stand no chance against two Mega Digimon, and soon they begin to argue amongst themselves.

Meanwhile, Kari senses a nearby presence and starts communicating with a mysterious entity that has been trying to reach her for a while. The entity instructs Kari to raise her Crest of Light, which she does, emitting a blinding light that envelops the entire group. This halts the fighting and reverts the Mega Digimon back to their In-Training forms.

The group then finds themselves in a familiar location, Highton View Terrace, where the mysterious being communicates through Kari. The entity explains that the kids were chosen as the DigiDestined after witnessing a battle between Greymon and Parrotmon four years ago. The entity reveals that it is similar to Digimon, composed of data, but unlike them, it cannot take a physical form. Kari is the only one it can use to communicate with the group. The children, now looking much younger, fly over the buildings. While Tai and Kari are on the street near Greymon, the other kids are on the balconies of adjacent buildings. Joe is seen on the phone, and Matt and T.K. are shown together, clearly before their parents’ divorce.

The entity then takes them to a room where hooded figures control the balance between good and evil in the Digital World, and where their future Digimon rest in their Digi-Eggs. Attached to the Digi-Eggs are the respective Crests and Digivices. The kids watch events from the past, digitally animated into the present like ghost images. The entity possessing Kari explains that the information from scanning the kids four years ago was used to create the Digivices and Crests. Tai and Kari were chosen because they helped Greymon digivolve during the fight, and the other kids were chosen for their special connection. The Crests were made from the kids’ strongest qualities at the time of scanning, and losing these qualities could lead to Digimon corruption, as seen with SkullGreymon.

Suddenly, the kids witness an attack on the location by Mekanorimon. They watch helplessly as Piedmon attacks the hooded figures and steals the eight Crests connected to the Digi-Eggs. Being images of the past, the kids can do nothing to intervene. They then see a younger Gennai rescuing the Digi-Eggs and taking them to File Island, where they await the arrival of the DigiDestined. Gennai loses Gatomon’s Digi-Egg while being chased.

Back in the forest, Kari returns to herself. Matt, still shaken from the fight, leaves the group despite finding out why they were chosen, saying he needs some time alone. Sora suggests they split into two groups, but Matt opposes the idea. Mimi also decides to leave, unwilling to fight or see anyone get hurt. Joe chooses to stay with her so she isn’t alone. Gatomon remains hopeful, pointing out that as the DigiDestined, they are destined to reunite again.

Matt leaves the group feeling unneeded and unwanted, thinking TK no longer needs him, causing identity issues. Everyone notices but Joe reassures them Matt left on his own. Kari hears voices, but no one takes her seriously despite their bizarre experiences.

Matt broods by a lake, reflecting on his lack of character development now that TK doesn’t need him. Cherrymon appears, convinces Matt that Tai is holding him back, and that he should kill Tai.

Meanwhile, Mimi shows growth by fighting Garbagemon and Puppetmon, flinging poo back at Garbagemon. The Digimon evolve to Perfect, and Puppetmon flees, despite previously defeating them. Cherrymon tells Matt he has no friends, then tells Puppetmon the same, prompting Puppetmon to kill Cherrymon.

The other children struggle with Garbagemon until MetalGarurumon defeats him and challenges Tai to a battle because a tree told him to. The episode poorly executes Matt’s emotional turmoil, despite its buildup, making it unrelatable. Gabumon doesn’t dark evolve, which seems inconsistent.

Mimi stands out as the reasonable character, realizing she’s had enough and using her gloves to her advantage.

The group watches in horror as the Dark Masters’ arena explodes with Piximon inside, just as they manage to escape in the force field he created. They find themselves on a familiar beach they visited at the beginning of their adventure. The mood is somber; they mourn the loss of their friend and feel disheartened by their apparent lack of progress, having returned to the same beach they started on. While debating the point of their journey, they hear cries for help from the water. T.K. and Kari eagerly rush to assist, leading the group to take a rowing boat to the source of the splashing. The distressed Digimon turns out to be Shellmon, likely the same one they encountered on their first day in the Digital World. In their Rookie forms, the Digimon manage to defeat Shellmon, making the team realize how much stronger they’ve become. Tai recalls that Agumon needed to be at the Champion level to defeat Shellmon before, and while the others are skeptical, they eventually agree that Piximon wanted them to grow stronger.

As the fog on the beach clears, the exhausted group heads toward a nearby snack bar. In their haste, Joe and Mimi trip and don’t make it inside the shack. This turns out to be fortunate, as the snack shack is a trap set by Scorpiomon, one of MetalSeadramon’s henchmen. Scorpiomon attacks, burying the others in sand and causing them to pass out. Joe, Mimi, and their Digimon, having avoided the trap, sneak up on MetalSeadramon, who is conversing with Scorpiomon. Realizing that two DigiDestined are missing, MetalSeadramon orders Scorpiomon to find them.

Scorpiomon chases the remaining DigiDestined and their partners but, slowed by his recent clam feast, they easily outrun him. He retreats into the water, and when he reemerges, Togemon and Ikkakumon are ready. Scorpiomon is distracted by more clams, allowing the Champion-level Digimon to digivolve to their Ultimate forms and defeat him. Inside the building, Tai and the others begin to regain consciousness. Mimi, Joe, and their partners enter and wake everyone to ensure their safe escape. MetalSeadramon, believing the DigiDestined are still inside, sets the shack ablaze. Scorpiomon, the only occupant, catches fire and rushes into the water, only to be lifted and dropped to his death by an enraged MetalSeadramon.

Though they are now safe, Joe doubts Tai’s claims of their partners’ growing strength, given that it took two Ultimate-level Digimon to defeat one of the Dark Masters’ henchmen. MetalSeadramon approaches the children on the beach, forcing them to flee into the water. Lillymon attempts to fend him off but is struck by his tail, causing her to de-digivolve to Palmon. Safely situated on Zudomon, they watch as MetalSeadramon disappears into the water, only to reappear and attack, causing Zudomon to de-digivolve to Gomamon and knocking the rest of the group into the water. Powerless, they face the looming threat of the Dark Master, who prepares to finish them off.

Despite Myotismon’s apparent defeat, his fog barrier grows thicker. Izzy receives a message from Gennai, revealing a prophecy about a sky darkened by bats, an undead king rising, and a miracle involving angels. The DigiDestined, confused by the prophecy, search for their families. Joe finds his brother Jim, who advises Joe to follow his own path in life, not just their father’s wishes. The group splits up: Joe and Jim head to a convention center, clearing it of Myotismon’s minions and finding their sleeping parents.

Meanwhile, another group, including Matt, T.K., and their father Hiroaki, struggles with the fog and are ambushed by Gizamon, but the creatures vanish mysteriously. At the convention center, Izzy’s adoptive parents reveal his adoption, strengthening their bond.

The people in the center begin chanting Myotismon’s name, and the DigiDestined realize Myotismon will reveal his true form at 6:06:06. VenomMyotismon emerges, and Agumon and Gabumon initially fight him but need more power. Greymon and Garurumon digivolve to MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon but still struggle. The angel Digimon, Angemon and Angewomon, shoot arrows at Matt and Tai, triggering a new Digivolution to the Mega stage: WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon.

The episode continues to build tension, picking up right where the previous one left off. The pace is slightly slower, allowing for deeper exploration of the characters and their dilemmas. Various plotlines intensify, leading to small victories and a significant setback. Notably, Izzy makes a return.

At an undisclosed location, Kari is hiding with Tai and Matt. The frustration mounts as Tai and Matt grapple with the need to protect Kari while dealing with the threat of an evil Digimon terrorizing the district. Tai eventually leaves to search for their parents, leaving Matt in charge of guarding Kari. Kari questions whether the situation is her fault and doubts Tai’s capabilities, to which Matt’s responses are unhelpful.

This scene highlights Matt’s recurring issue with teamwork and his lack of confidence in Tai. He reluctantly accepts Tai’s orders but struggles with the responsibility of protecting Kari and keeping her spirits up. This struggle upsets Kari, revealing Matt’s internal conflict.

Meanwhile, Izzy receives crucial orders from Gennai and a new app that makes humans invisible to Digimon. Izzy’s parents finally understand and support his mission. Yoshie’s generic mom speech is emotionally charged, given their underlying issues. Izzy, despite his frustration, is moved by her words and masks his emotions well. He then heads to the TV station, only to be kidnapped by Hiroaki, who uses chloroform to ensure cooperation.

Joe and TK have a significant moment at the ferry station, where a riot is brewing due to suspended service. TK is separated from his mother but finds Joe, and they realize they can use Ikkakumon for water transportation. As they set off, TK’s mother arrives, distraught at seeing her son leave. TK’s insensitive jokes add to her distress. During the voyage, Megaseadramon attacks, and Joe ensures TK’s safety before being overwhelmed himself. This leads to Zudomon’s dramatic and well-deserved debut, saving Joe.

Back at the hideout, Sora finds Matt, but they are attacked by Phantomon, who summons minions to fight. Garurumon and Birdramon struggle, and Phantomon directly attacks Matt, injuring Sora when she tries to help. With everyone in danger, Kari sacrifices herself to save them, making the mission seem doomed.
