Influenza is a serious global health concern that impacts all countries.

Worldwide, every year, there are an estimated 1 billion cases, 3-5 million severe cases and 290,000 to 650,000 influenza-related respiratory deaths. This significant burden of disease globally highlights the importance of influenza prevention, through immunisation, worldwide.

In Australia, in 2017, influenza caused more than 1,200 deaths (3.9 per 100,000 people).
