Today Mike and Guest co-host Matt are talking with Travis Zappia from The Young Retiree By 33. He is here to discuss short term rental properties and his goal of retiring by age 33.

Travis, TheYoungRetireeBy33, is a FIRE advocate who has started to get into real estate investing in the last 3 years. He purchased his first house hack in 2016 and decided to rent out by the bedroom on Airbnb.He has since purchased four additional properties he focuses solely on short term rentals for.

In 2020, even with the pandemic, he grossed $111k in short term rental income through Airbnb. In 2021, he grossed $388k and ended up netting $110k. With his Industrial Engineering background, he has developed a set of systems to help him manage 5 short term rental units all from his phone. He even wrote a guide outlining exactly how he is able to manage his 6 short term rentals all while he has a full time job.
