True discipleship involves moving beyond mere association with Jesus to genuine apprenticeship. We are constantly being shaped by something—whether culture, fear, comfort, or Christ himself. Formation differs from information; it's the slow, intentional shaping of our inner life and outer habits to increasingly reflect Jesus's character. When Jesus called his first disciples, they immediately left their nets and followed him, demonstrating that following Christ requires letting go of what anchors us to our old way of life.

Formation happens through proximity to Jesus over time, cooperating with the Holy Spirit's transforming work through daily Scripture reading, examining what we're gripping onto, and rearranging small habits around Christ.
