Follow-through Is the Key to Successful Evangelism

Listen Later

There is no evangelism without follow-through. Even a “one-stop” study requires the teacher to get back in touch with the learner.

We need to understand that it’s not enough to teach them how to be saved. Evangelism is a PROCESS that demands attention to life AFTER baptism. That’s because there is SO MUCH to learn. Jesus said to go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). To do that He gave the Great Commission.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.Matthew 28:19-20

See also Mark 16:15-16 for a parallel account.

Why should it more urgent to baptize people than to build loyalty, commitment, and discipleship? That’s foreign to the Commission. “Teaching them to observe all things” means that we get back with people as needed. This need is GREAT at first.

This is what follow-through is all about. We need to be prepared and committed to helping them get through the changes we hope they will be making.

So what can we do (generally speaking) to follow-through? In this podcast episode we will consider three “tips” and explain them in detail. You’ll know exactly what to do and what mindsets will serve best in your efforts.

The three broad-scope ideas discussed:

* Be gracious.* Help them set their sights.* 6 Mindset Tips

Evangelism can be OVERWHELMING at times because we may see SO MANY AREAS where we are lacking. We lack skills, knowledge, and sometimes we lack the motivation.

Not only that, the people we are trying to reach generally lack knowledge and sometimes they have knowledge that must be carefully corrected. It’s a great challenge, and one of the many reasons we call it, “The Great Commission”.

Follow-through is the KEY to making this all work properly. Commit to it. You will be glad you did.

Note: This is a third part of the three part series. The first one is called, “A Well-Placed Invitation Will Empower Your Evangelism.”
