Luke 9:51-62
In a very real sense Luke could have walked through the door of 9:51 [ with Jesus’ face set to go to Jerusalem ] right into the room of 19:28 [ with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem ]. But it’s very evident that Luke chose not to write in this way, which raises the question ‘Why’? The answer is because Luke wants Theophilus to be certain about what is means to follow Jesus. This big middle section of Luke’s gospel is concerned with discipleship. The key question is, “What does this discipleship look like?” Answer—Following the Savior in genuine discipleship is a commitment to a costly summons.
