Sarah Townsend Davies, a long time resident of Draper, Utah started taking piano lessons at age seven. While she had her fair share of fighting her mom to practice, something about the piano has captivated her and kept her playing ever since. In high school, Sarah took her love of the piano to the next level by auditioning to be a pianist at the esteemed Roof Restaurant in Salt Lake City. After being hired, Sarah thrived in the challenge of constantly expanding her repertoire and performing in front of thousands of guests over the four years she played there. During this time Sarah compiled a music library of nearly 1000 songs on her iPad and gained the skills necessary to learn songs by ear and take requests on demand.
Sharing her love for music is one of Sarah’s greatest passions, as she finds great joy in helping others discover the fun, discipline and even healing that can come from learning an instrument. After a 10 year career teaching piano lessons from her home, Sarah (with the help from her husband Brady) took the plunge in 2015 and decided to open a full service private music lesson studio which they called The Piano Place. Today, their studio has grown to three locations and it is their great honor and a privilege to share their passion for music with their hundreds of students across the Salt Lake Valley.
Before starting The Piano Place, Sarah enjoyed a career in the public relations industry after graduating from BYU’s communications program in 2014. Sarah’s experience working for Manhattan based communications firm, Coltrin and Associates, opened up many opportunities to work with a variety of high profile clients like Popeyes, Coldstone Creamery, Protection One and many more. Through this, she was also given the chance to pitch, negotiate and secure a segment spot on Good Morning America for one of Coltrin’s top accounts and was invited to accompany both client and crew on set in New York City. The skills she learned from this time in her life have proved invaluable to her work at The Piano Place.
Sarah has shared her vast piano repertoire by playing at dozens of weddings, corporate events and religious functions. Sarah currently enjoys serving as the piano accompanist for her ward’s choir. Sarah attributes much of her success in piano to the inspiring instructors she has studied under including Gina Knowles, Ann Harrington and BYU’s Dr. Robin Hancock. When she is not playing or teaching piano, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband Brady, chasing around their three kids, doing pilates, playing tennis, traveling and eating good food. Sarah is very thankful for the many families that have supported their effort to create The Piano Place studio and are so excited for the many fun opportunities in store.
