Food Bank Donations, Christmas Cards, and Developing Learners

Welcome back to our Middle School Matters podcast!

  • My name is Tim Cavey, and I’m the VCS Middle School vice-principal
  • My name is Mary DeBoer, and I’m the VCS Middle School principal

    • Here were some highlights from the week:

    • Monday: Staff vs Grade 8 girls volleyball
    • Thursday House Games: Steal the Bacon
    • Thursday night: AGM over Zoom for parents (Mary gave a devotional)
    • Our Grade 7 boys also helped to transport a load of food donations from VCS to the Abbotsford food bank, realizing part of our school’s mission of service to others

      • Upcoming Dates:

      • December 1-10 - MS Food Drive for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank
      • Details about the food drive will be sent in an email this week
      • We are challenging the students to make it their own by using their own funds to purchase items such as: dried goods like pasta and rice, canned low sodium salmon, canned hearty soups and stews
      • This Thursday we will do some Christmas-themed house activities
      • Thursday, December 16 - Last Day of School, Christmas celebrations

        • Other Items

        • Report cards: how to think about Developing proficiency
        • MDI: What is it and why? “The Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) is a self-report questionnaire that asks children in Grades 4 through 8 about their thoughts, feelings and experiences in school and in the community.”
        • A thorough CSM review for parents on Discord is available
        • Advent focus in morning devotions including the advent project put on by Biola University
