With world population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050 we are faced with the challenge of feeding this growing population while dealing with the problems of climate change and diminishing arable land.
Lifting a billion people out of poverty and feeding an extra 2 billion people by 2050 will require an increase in cereal production by 70%. A novel biotechnological approach to fighting fungal diseases is being looked at as part of the solution to this monumental global challenge.
