When you look at the scriptures, there are many symbols for the Bible. It’s a sword, hammer, light, fire, mirror, water, milk, meat, and bread. In Jesus’ day, bread meant food. It was sustenance and nourishment. Just as our bodies require daily, proper nourishment, so do our spirits. We can try to fill ourselves with all kinds of substitutes that only leave us longing for something else.
