In 2013, a tragic crime shook Algeria when two young boys, Haroun and Brahim, were kidnapped and murdered. While the city’s attention was focused on a major football match, the children were lured away by a predator, Hamza, and his accomplice, Mamine.
After a massive five-day search, their bodies were found near an under-construction building. Forensic examinations revealed that the boys had endured extreme physical abuse before their deaths, exposing the full horror of the crime.
The perpetrators were apprehended and sentenced to death; however, the sentence was never carried out due to a national moratorium on executions. The case sparked widespread grief and outrage across the community, leading to public protests demanding justice for the two children. It remains a somber reminder of the vulnerability of the innocent and the profound impact such crimes have on society.
