Welcome to For Better or For Work.
What’s it like to be partners in business and in life? Mirasee owners Danny Iny and Bhoomi Pathak tackle the unique challenges as well as benefits of working with a spouse or significant other. Most episodes feature a guest couple who then share their experiences, perspectives, and hard-earned wisdom.
Johnny B. Truant
Johnny B. Truant is the co-founder and flagship storyteller of Sterling & Stone. Johnny writes fun, page-turning, layered, and most of all “inquisitive” fiction — stories told in many genres and ways, united by a curiosity about life’s biggest questions. Sterling & Stone is a multimedia story studio. Much like Pixar, Bad Robot, or Lucasfilm, it is an incubator for unforgettable stories. Unbound by genre or rules, other than the ones that make a story magical, Sterling & Stone tells tales in every medium: books, audio, and film/television.

Richard Chandler
Richard Chandler came to psychotherapy after two decades of work in holistic healthcare. He wanted to serve clients when faced with life challenges that were more mental, emotional, and relational than was possible in his former healthcare practice. In addition to career consulting, life, and executive coaching, Richard primarily works with couples and individual men and women seeking better relationships, personal growth, and greater life balance and happiness. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor through the State of Minnesota and founder of Chandler Counseling and Consulting.
Julie Kyker
Julie Kyker is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who’s been in practice for more than 30 years, as well as in business for herself over the past decade. In her EntreCouple Program, she teaches entrepreneurs and their significant others how to use neuroscience-backed tools and methods for facing fears, embracing conflict, and deepening connection. Julie uniquely recognizes that this clientele requires a particular type of support and attention to keep the magic of love alive in their relationships, so that they are unstoppable in their business enterprises.

Rob and Sherry Walling
Rob Walling is a serial entrepreneur who’s built and sold several companies, including Drip. He has been helping non-venture-backed startup founders since 2005 and now runs the first startup accelerator for SaaS bootstrappers, called TinySeed. Although he has invested in more than 125 startups, he doesn’t believe the only way to start a company is to raise money — in fact, he’s built six businesses to six- or seven-figures in revenue without taking outside funding. Rob also hosts the most popular podcast for bootstrappers, called Startups for the Rest of Us. It has more than 10 million downloads and 1000 five-star ratings.
Dr. Sherry Walling is a clinical psychologist, speaker, podcaster, author, and mental health advocate. Her company, ZenFounder, helps entrepreneurs and leaders navigate transition, rapid growth, loss, and any manner of complex human experience. She also hosts the ZenFounder podcast, which has been called a “must listen” by both Forbes and Entrepreneur Magazine and has been downloaded more than 1,000,000 times. She has also been known to occasionally perform as a circus aerialist.

Tom Hobson and Jennifer Hurshell
Tom “Teacher Tom” Hobson and Jennifer Hurshell together run Teacher Tom’s World. Tom is an early childhood educator, international speaker, education consultant, teacher of teachers, parent educator, and author. He is best known, however, for his namesake blog Teacher Tom's Blog, where he has posted daily for over a decade, chronicling the life and times of his little preschool in the rain-soaked Pacific Northwest corner of the USA.
Teacher Tom shares his play-based pedagogy through online e-courses for early childhood educators; produces online early childhood conferences; consults with organizations about his "Family Schools" program; and inspires early years audiences around the world (Greece, UK, Iceland, Australia, China, Vietnam, New Zealand, Canada, and across the US) both virtually and in person with his engaging views on early childhood education, play, and pedagogy.
He was pressured by his blog readers into authoring his first book, aptly named Teacher Tom’s First Book, and is thrilled about the recent release of Teacher Tom’s Second Book.

“The time that's wasted in how should we disagree? You disagree by being respectfully reactionary… Your point of view, your opinions, your gut reaction is all you have in life.” – Suzanne Evans“I think that sometimes you just have to go with your gut and blurt it out, and then work through it and be willing to stand beside it.” – Melonie Orr
Suzanne Evans
Suzanne Evans is the founder of Driven Inc. She is a mom, wife, sister, entrepreneur and risk taker from North Carolina. Her work blends business, strategy, lifestyle, and storytelling in a way that allows people to build businesses that shape the world to be a better place. The process of momship and business ownership and life has been a delicious mix of messy, exhilarating, devastating, and exciting. Along the way, they have gotten some of it right: hitting the Inc. 500/5000 for five straight years and landing #5 on the NY Times Bestseller list. As they say, they’ve also messed up a lot of things, which positions them perfectly to help more good people do more good work in the world.
Melonie Orr
Melonie Orr is president of Driven Inc. Always irreverent and brutally honest, Melonie disrupts any business conversation she enters by making it more logical, less emotional, and more profitable. She follows this approach because she knows that making the logical best decision will always yield the best results. She left her job as marketing director for the nation’s largest not-for-profit educational theater to run all things Driven Inc. to the tune of more than $7 million a year. By helping people realize their potential, she believes anyone can build a profitable brand.

“We do just have a ridiculous amount of fun together.” – Amy Port“We had been working together for years before we became a couple, so we already had some of those work roles, responsibilities, even rhythms and routines in place.” – Michael Port
Amy & Michael Port
Michael Port has written nine books which have been featured on the bestseller lists of the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Publisher’s Weekly and have been selected by Amazon and 800-CEO-READ as “best books of the year.”
He was once a professional actor, having received his MFA from NYU’s Graduate Acting Program, guest starring on shows like Sex & The City and Law & Order, and in films like The Pelican Brief and Down to Earth. These days, Michael can be seen on MSNBC, CNBC, and PBS as an on air expert in communication and business development and as the host of the most popular podcast on public speaking and performance, Steal the Show with Michael Port.
Amy Port is the Co-Founder and President of Heroic Public Speaking; her work extends from the execution of corporate training packages, to development of CEO keynotes, private masterclasses and coaching.
After earning her MFA in Acting from The Yale School of Drama, Amy spent years acting professionally in theaters such as Seattle Repertory, Oregon Shakespeare and Yale Rep, and working consistently in commercials. She now applies the skills of performance that only well-trained actors know to the coaching of ‘non-actors’ looking to crush their sales presentations, to make their voices heard in TED Talk style presentations, and to take the big stage keynoting major conferences.

“I would advise people to be really wary about the sensitivities that exist, those kinds of meta messages that go on between couples with expression, tone of voice, body language, all that kind of stuff that really gets dispensed with in the workplace, because you're just trying to get something done.”
– Meg Hirshberg
“The business is a member of the family.… The business has its own life, it has its own demands, it has its own call on your time and your consciousness. And you have to think of it that way.”
–Gary Hirshberg
Meg Cadoux Hirshberg is founder of The Anticancer Lifestyle Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to promoting evidence-based lifestyle transformation for cancer survivors. For 15 years Meg was a freelance non-fiction writer, whose work appeared in Yankee, New Hampshire magazine, and the Boston Globe magazine, among other publications. In 2009, she began writing a regular column for Inc. magazine called “Balancing Acts” that explored work-life balance and the intersection of family and business in an entrepreneurial setting.
Meg’s book, For Better or For Work: A Survival Guide For Entrepreneurs and Their Families, expands on her column topics. Axiom Business Book Awards, AMEX Open Forum, and entrepreneur magazine cited Meg’s book as one of the best business books of 2012. Meg has also written two yogurt cookbooks. She is married to Gary Hirshberg, chairman and co-founder of Stonyfield Yogurt. The couple has three children.
Gary Hirshberg is cofounder, chief organic optimist, and former longtime CEO of Stonyfield Organic, the world’s leading organic yogurt producer.
