The world around us is constantly pushing us away from God's economy. The world around us trains us to stand up for our rights, hold on to what's ours, look out for ourselves after all you only live once (YOLO!). These two ideologies are in constant tension. One is rooted in a natural instinct toward self-preservation, the other is rooted in Christ's selfless sacrifice on the cross. The world's economy has room for being nice but not if the cost is too high to one's self. The Kingdom economy calls us to greater and greater sacrifice for people we don't even know.
