I was swept away
so often by your
strong arms.
lifted high in
the bright son
of my vyouth
your warm gaze
catching mine.
as your lips
parted like the Red sea
in a friendly passage
laughter broke like
thunderous waves
against my ears
leading me
to the real you.
of flesh and blood
and not
the man of sweat
and bone weary labor
dragging home
exhausted from an
sixty-our week
sometimes just the grip
of your hand
over mine, so small
gave me
a passion to be just
like you and
make my own son
feel just as wanted with
just a knowing glance
or a pat on the back
to say I was proud of him...
Mom's could heal boo-boos
and share kisses and
cookies with a magical
grace and love....
they spread love like
peanut butter
and you seldom
went hungry
but Dad you
made you feel
important just because
you gave me a purpose.
your love was subdued.
but it roared like
a panther in a cage
and sopmetimes it
leaked out thorugh
your fingers
as they swept me up
howling with joy
into the bright
sun of my youth.
You always wanted
me to be a better man
than you were
but you were the best
better than all the rest.
and now you're gone
you've moved on
to the rewards that
you earned.
for being such a
good father even
though sometimes it
was a bother
and Oh, Lord I could
bother you, Dad
but most of all
I wanted you to
know as I closed
my song
that I love you Dad.
I love you Dad!
