What’s a kingdom? At its most basic, a kingdom is a place, with people, governed by some form of law and under the rule of a king or leader. When Jesus came proclaiming “the kingdom of God is near,” He was instituting an alternate kind of kingdom. His kingdom was located wherever He went, its citizens comprised of all who called Him “Lord,” guided by His own teaching and His fulfillment of the Mosaic Law, with Him serving as its unique and eternal king. The kingdom of God, Jesus taught, was something to be sought after whole-heartedly among His followers. Even more than building the church (that’s His job), we are to work to make known the reign and rule of God in all the earth. In this concluding week of the series, we affirm with full allegiance that we are for the kingdom of God.
