Kirsten is joined by Rudi Bauer, winemaker and co-owner of Quartz Reef in Central Otago. Originally from Austria, he talks about European vs New Zealand wine culture and why he chose to live and work here. Quartz Reef is a biodynamic winery with a focus on particularly sparkling wine and Pinot Noir, and Rudi explains the differences between NZ sparkling wine and Champagne. He is a pioneer and was one of the first to make wine in Central Otago. Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s he had no idea that Central Otago would become such a significant wine region in New Zealand, paving the way for great cool-climate Pinot Noir.
