"Note the end of verse 2, “And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” On the one hand, salvation is a personal thing; Jesus saves individuals. On the other hand, Jesus saves His church (the “Bride of Christ” in 22:17). Revelation 22 speaks of a national interest: the healing of the nations. John 3:16 isn’t in this week’s daily readings, but the concept of God loving all the world’s people certainly is. Gentiles eventually get that blessing, too (Acts 10). “Nations” is found 560 times in the Bible and “nation” is found 155 times. Abraham was given the “original Great Commission” (Genesis 12). God wanted bless all the nations through him. Yet, Jesus warned us that not everyone would be a fan of His (John 15)." - Pastor Tom
