Ford Recalls Aviator and Explorer_ Seat Defect

Listen Later

Ford is initiating a recall for 304,662 Lincoln Aviator and Ford Explorer crossovers from model years 2020 to 2025. The recall addresses a potential defect in the second-row seat fold lever bezel, which could be incorrectly installed, leading to the outboard seats binding or becoming unlatched while the vehicle is in motion. While Ford estimates only 6% of affected vehicles will have this defect, the issue poses a safety risk, potentially causing injury or collision due to unexpected seat movement. Ford will inspect and replace faulty bezels free of charge at dealerships.

II. Key Information and Main Themes
A. Scope of the Recall
Affected Vehicles: 121,235 Lincoln Aviators and 183,427 Ford Explorers.
Model Years: 2020 through 2025.

B. Nature of the Defect
Component: "Second-row seat easy entry seat fold switch bezel."
Problem: The bezel "may have been installed incorrectly" or can be "misaligned with the switch and can cause the seat to bind or the switch to become stuck in the down position."
Consequence: This misalignment "could lead to a situation where the seat becomes unlatched in the seat track, which would cause the seat to move or the seat to fold while the vehicle is in motion."
Safety Risk: "A seat that’s moving unexpectedly in the cabin could lead to injury or a potential collision."
