God, from the very beginning of man, then again from the beginning of the nation Israel, has looked to bless those who seek to obey Him. But too many have opted out of pursuing the blessings of God and live in submission and search for other gods, other sources of blessings and by this forfeit blessings from Him. This was the case with this string of northern kings and an a defiant apostate in the last verse of this chapter.
