Overview: You can be so sure of yourself before God that you are not even shaken out of your confidence by the rebuke of God Himself- Different societies have certain unspoken customs that are not noticed until they are missing. A Pharisee invites Jesus to his house, yet strangely, this religious man doesn't show Jesus the common acts of courtesy. This is how confident he is in his own perceived importance. His behaviour is insulting to Jesus, yet Jesus doesn't take offense. At the same time, a woman in moral ragis is in the Pharisee's house. She sees the insults and she weeps before Jesus, wetting his feet with her tears. Against custom, she lets down her hair and wipes His feet with it. Enchanting was her act of worship. But this tightly-buttoned Pharisee is unhappy with this inappropriate display. Jesus is showing the stark contrast between mere religious self-confidence and true consuming worship. In fact, He even begins to criticize Jesus in his heart- What a degree of self-deceptive self-confidence is this- He is acting as if he can judge God Himself- If you don't sense your need for salvation, God could visit you at your house and you, like this Pharisee, would miss him-
